Afterword Tavern & Shelves: Kansas City

Something I have really been trying to work on is to be a tourist in my own city. Kansas City has so many really cool places that I know I would check out if I were just visiting, but I always put off because I tell myself I have so much time but every once in awhile comes a place I know I have check out sooner rather than later.

Afterword Tavern & Shelves is one of those places. I’ve been chomping at the bit to go as soon as I heard about it.

Book Review: The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

I recently joined an online-based book club and the pick this month was The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. The book was already on my endless TBR list so I was really excited to dive in. I was intrigued instantly. The title itself makes you think. I also love how Gatsby-esque the cover appears. I am a sucker for Gatsby.

27 for 27

A little over a week ago I celebrated my 27th birthday. I am the kind of person who stresses over their birthday– and not because I am getting older. That doesn’t bother me (yet). I just hate the idea of having to plan something. It stresses me out. This year I did things right. I just invited a few of the people I actually see on a regular basis and decided to have a Sunday Funday.

I’ve Got A Beautiful Feelin’

Last weekend I took a girls trip to Tulsa, and it felt so good to get away– even just to Oklahoma. I also learned that when you tell people that you’re going to Oklahoma “just because” they react like Monica in that episode of Friends.

My January Reads

I set a goal to read 40 books in 2019 and I think I’m off to a pretty good start. I read a total of 9 books in January. I know I am posting this a little late but I still wanted to share what I read so far and how I felt about those books.

An Open Letter to my Grandpa

Dear Grandpa,

Seven years today. How has it been that long? Seven years is such a long time to live without someone so important. I’m doing the best I can down here.

Our last Christmas together you pulled me aside and you made me promise to keep spending time with Grandma after you were gone. I should have realized that was goodbye. I didn’t. I promise I’ll call her today to make sure she’s okay and tell I her love her.

I want to take her to Michigan to see Aunt PeeWee. I’d rather wait for the warm weather, though. We need to sit down and plan that. I’ll bring that up when I talk to her today.

Since you’ve been gone I got my Bachelor’s and my Master’s degree. I’m working to build a career and a life for myself. I’m not a religious person but I’d like to think you’re somewhere watching and cheering me on.

I always think of you when the day is cool and it smells like rain. It makes me want to go fishing with you again. Even though I totally complained as a kid about it being too hot and having to go to the bathroom IN A BUCKET. I’m still convinced there was another option.

I guess I should wrap this up. It just felt good to talk to you again. I love you and I miss you. Even the you who got irritated and cussed up a storm.

Saving Money + Helping the Planet

It is no secret that we live in a world of waste. Americans make up 5% of the world population but we are responsible for almost a third of the waste (Utah Recycles.) I am definitely not the greenest person around. I only recycle at work, I take really long showers, and I have a fan in my bedroom that runs 24/7. These are all things I should work on. That being said… there are 3 habits I have changed that are good for the planet and my wallet.
